Chef Faila’s Attempt to Break Cooking Marathon Record Ends in Disappointment

Ghanaian chef Abdul-Razak Failatu, popularly known as Chef Faila, set out on an ambitious mission to establish a new world record for the longest cooking marathon, as documented by the Guinness Book of World Records. However, her endeavor, which garnered attention both locally and internationally, ultimately fell short of meeting the stringent guidelines set forth by Guinness World Records.

In a press release signed by Kafui Dey, coordinator for Chef Faila’s cook-a-thon attempt, it was revealed that despite captivating audiences worldwide, the effort failed to adhere to the regulations outlined by Guinness World Records. Specifically, a breach of the rest break rules was cited by the Records Management Team, leading to the unsuccessful outcome of the endeavor.

Chef Faila commenced her record-breaking attempt on January 1, 2024, at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale, embarking on a marathon cooking session that lasted for 227 consecutive

hours, concluding on January 10, 2024. Throughout the event, Chef Faila showcased her culinary skills by preparing a variety of dishes, predominantly focusing on Ghanaian cuisine, which were served to guests and those in need.

Despite the setback, Chef Faila expressed gratitude to the individuals and brands that supported her during the endeavor. Undeterred by the outcome, she remains committed to pushing boundaries in her culinary journey and continuing to inspire others through her passion for cooking.

The cookathon organized by Chef Faila attracted significant attention and support from members of the public, as well as celebrities and politicians, who visited the hotel to offer their encouragement.
