Job Purpose
As the Regional Director of Agriculture, your primary role will be to spearhead the development of agriculture and ensure the sustainability of the agro-environment within the Local Government Service (LGS). Job Summary
In this position, you’ll be tasked with several key responsibilities:
- Promotion of Agricultural Policies and Technologies: You’ll be responsible for promoting policies, methods, and agricultural technologies aimed at enhancing various aspects of agriculture, including agribusiness, agro-processing, and production of crops, animals, and fish.
- Reporting on Agricultural Conditions: It will be essential to submit timely reports on agricultural conditions, seasonal changes, and ongoing agricultural activities within the region.
- Representation on Regional Food and Agriculture Committees: As the Department’s representative, you’ll participate in Regional Food and Agriculture Committees, contributing insights and initiatives to advance agricultural interests.
- Resource Management: Efficient management of people, financial resources, and materials will be crucial for the effective implementation of agricultural programs.
- Conducting Workshops and Seminars: You’ll organize and conduct field schools, workshops, and seminars to assess farmer participation and adoption of new farming technologies and techniques.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaboration with key stakeholders is vital to improving agriculture service delivery. You’ll work closely with various stakeholders to enhance agricultural practices and outcomes.
- Personnel Development: Enhancing the talents, skills, and knowledge of personnel within the department will be an ongoing responsibility.
- Performance Appraisals: You’ll conduct regular performance appraisals of direct reports to ensure accountability and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following qualifications and experience requirements:
- A Master’s degree in Agriculture or a related field such as Animal Health, Veterinary, Crops, Fisheries, or Economics.
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in the Local Government Service (LGS) or an equivalent Public Sector institution, with at least 6 years in Senior Management positions.
- Membership in a recognized professional body.
