WASSCE 2024: Will Exams Begin on August 5, a Public Holiday?

The 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Ghanaian students is slated to commence on Monday, August 5, 2024. This date coincides with a public holiday, raising questions about the scheduling and potential adjustments.

According to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the first day of the exams will feature several practical papers, including Basketry 3, Ceramics 3, Graphic Design 3, Jewellery 3, Leatherwork 3, Picture Making 3, Sculpture 3, and Textiles 3. These practical sessions are set to run from Monday, August 5, 2024, to Friday, August 23, 2024, with candidates dedicating up to six hours each day for five days per paper.

Given that August 5 is a public holiday, there are considerations about whether the exams will proceed as scheduled. While the main WASSCE subjects are not expected to be affected, schools and candidates might need to adjust their dates for the practical exams. If invigilators are required to supervise these sessions, any practical paper slated for August 5 could potentially be moved to the following day, August 6.

In light of this, the holiday is unlikely to impact the overall examination schedule. WAEC has not indicated any plans to alter the timetable, and it remains anticipated that the exams will proceed without significant disruption.
