Nollywood Mourns the Loss of Beloved Comedian, Mr. Ibu

The Nigerian entertainment industry is reeling from the loss of one of its most beloved figures, popular Nollywood comedy actor John Okafor, affectionately known as Mr. Ibu.

Reports confirm that Mr. Ibu passed away on Saturday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Lagos. The tragic news was shared by the President of Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas Ejezie, who took to Instagram to announce that Mr. Ibu had suffered a fatal cardiac arrest.

According to Ejezie’s post, Mr. Ibu’s longtime manager, Don Single Nwuzor, confirmed the heartbreaking news of the actor’s passing. The announcement was met with an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues alike.

In November 2023, Mr. Ibu’s family had revealed that the actor had undergone a leg amputation due to medical reasons. The decision came after a series of surgeries aimed at preserving his life. Despite the challenges, Mr. Ibu’s family remained steadfast, acknowledging the difficult reality they faced.

The loss of Mr. Ibu marks the end of an era in Nigerian cinema. Throughout his illustrious career, he endeared himself to audiences with his unique brand of comedy, starring in numerous iconic films such as “Aki and Pawpaw,” “Keziah,” “9 Wives,” and “Mr. Ibu in London.”

As the nation mourns the passing of a true legend, Mr. Ibu’s legacy will undoubtedly live on through his timeless performances and the laughter he brought to millions of fans worldwide.
