The African Development Bank (AfDB) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Transport Engineer to join its Infrastructure and Urban Development Department (PICU). This position plays a vital role in shaping the development of transport infrastructure across Africa, contributing to the Bank’s mission to reduce poverty and enhance economic growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Policy Development & Advisory:
- Contribute to the development of policies and strategies for transport sectors in Africa.
- Advise governments, particularly in Ghana, on transport planning, asset management, and private sector participation.
- Project Preparation & Management:
- Support the preparation, supervision, and implementation of transport projects, including roads, railways, ports, and airports.
- Participate in feasibility studies, review consultant work, and prepare reports for effective project execution.
- Resource Mobilization & Donor Coordination:
- Collaborate with other development partners and stakeholders to mobilize resources and co-financing opportunities.
- Play a key role in donor coordination through the Country Transport Sector Working Group.
- Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Oversee the monitoring of ongoing transport projects, ensuring they meet quality standards, timelines, and Bank’s fiduciary guidelines.
- Lead project completion reviews and share lessons learned for future interventions.
- Sector Dialogue & Knowledge Dissemination:
- Engage in sector dialogue, provide technical expertise, and disseminate best practices in transport development.
- Contribute to building a knowledge base to improve policy and project outcomes.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: A Master’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or related fields.
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in the transport sector, including policy, project design, and implementation. Proven knowledge of roads, highways, and transport infrastructure development, including contract management and procurement.
- Skills:
- In-depth understanding of project cycles and result-based project management.
- Strong leadership and policy dialogue skills to resolve complex issues.
- Fluency in French is essential; knowledge of English is an advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office and SAP.
