
The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) is a global public organization operating across 27 countries in Africa, Asia, and America. IFDC plays a crucial role in addressing food security and poverty by bridging the gap between research and impact. We develop science-based innovations, promote market-driven solutions, and create enabling policy environments to support sustainable agricultural practices. Our goal is to enhance soil health, improve crop productivity, and reduce environmental impact while fostering economic resilience for farming communities worldwide.
To drive our expansion and impact, we are seeking an experienced Department Director, Country Engagement to lead, mentor, and support our Country Directors in achieving strategic growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Strategy
- Guide Country Directors in developing and executing country and regional business development strategies.
- Support the expansion of IFDC programs and donor engagement in alignment with the organization’s core mission.
- Oversee the business development pipeline to ensure long-term sustainability and growth.
Proposal Management
- Lead the development, planning, and submission of high-quality concept notes and proposals.
- Ensure proposals align with donor priorities and organizational goals.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships
- Strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, private sector partners, and NGOs.
- Enhance visibility and engagement of IFDC at national, regional, and global levels.
- Foster collaboration between Country Directors and technical teams to ensure alignment in strategy and execution.
Operational Oversight & Compliance
- Ensure financial efficiency and operational effectiveness at the country level.
- Set performance goals for Country Directors in line with IFDC’s institutional objectives.
- Provide strategic guidance on resource planning and business intake.
- Promote work-life balance and the professional development of young professionals within country teams.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning
- Establish a culture of learning and continuous improvement within country offices.
- Share best practices and lessons learned to enhance business development across IFDC operations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree (MA, MSc.) in sustainable agriculture, international development, or a related field.
- 10+ years of senior leadership experience in business development, strategic partnerships, and international development projects.
- Proven expertise in market expansion, proposal development, and donor engagement.
- Strong leadership skills in managing and mentoring cross-functional teams.
- Ability to lead complex business pipelines and drive results.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- High proficiency in English (French or Portuguese is an added advantage).

- Ability to thrive under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
