Ghana’s Election 2024: How to Check Your Voter Details for Free Using a Short Code

Ghana’s Election 2024: How to Check Your Voter Details for Free Using a Short Code

As Ghana prepares for the crucial 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, ensuring that your voter details are accurate has never been more important. This guide explains how you can check your details in the Electoral Commission’s voters’ register for free using a simple short code, making it accessible to all registered voters across the country.

Why Checking Your Voter Details Is Essential

With the election date set for December 7th, 2024, it’s crucial for every registered voter to verify their details in the electoral roll. Accurate voter information ensures that you can participate in the election without any hitches. To make this process easier, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has introduced a free short code service that allows voters to check their details at no cost.

How to Check Your Voter Details for Free

Follow these simple steps to verify your voter details using your mobile device:

  1. Dial the Short Code:
  2. Enter Your Voter ID Number:
    • Input the voter ID number found on your voter card.
  3. Submit Your Details:
    • Press the send button after entering your ID number.
  4. View Your Voter Details:
    • Your registered name, polling station number, age, and other relevant information will be displayed on your screen.
  5. Confirm Your Information:
    • If the details match your voter ID, confirm by selecting “Yes.”

Important Notes:

  • One-Time Use: The free service can be used only once per voter ID number. A second attempt will be denied to ensure fair access for all voters.
  • Take a Screenshot: It’s recommended to take a screenshot of your details for future reference.

Comparing Free and Paid Services

While the Electoral Commission (EC) offers a similar service at a cost of 50 pesewas, the NDC’s short code service is entirely free and unbiased, making it the preferred option for many voters. This initiative ensures that all Ghanaians, regardless of their financial situation, can verify their voter details.

Looking Ahead to Election Day

The 2024 election is anticipated to be a closely contested race between Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). As the election draws near, ensuring that your voter details are correct is a critical step in exercising your right to vote.
