The Ghana Military Academy (GMA) is the premier military training institution of the Ghana Armed Forces. Situated in Teshie, within the Greater Accra Region, the academy offers comprehensive military training to officer cadets from the Ghana Army, Ghana Navy, and Ghana Air Force.

Admission Details

GMA is inviting suitably qualified Ghanaian citizens to apply for admission into its 11th Regular Course degree programs for the 2024/2025 academic session. Entrance to the academy is through a rigorous examination process, and the curriculum encompasses both military and general subjects.

Programmes and Courses

The Regular Course

The Regular Course is structured into two main parts:

  • Standard Military Course (SMC): A 3-month intensive training phase.
  • Regular Career Course: Extending over 12 months, this phase provides comprehensive training in various military disciplines.

Training Highlights

  • Tri-Service Training: During the SMC phase, cadets from the Army, Navy, and Air Force undergo joint training.
  • Specialized Training: Cadets participate in jungle training at the Jungle Warfare School in Achiase, Eastern Region, and mountaineering activities in Amedzofe, Volta Region.
  • Commissioning: Successful completion of the Regular Course results in cadets being granted Regular Commission into the Ghana Armed Forces.

The Short Service Commission and Special Duties Course

  • Duration: A 6-month course catering to direct entry professionals and servicemen required as specialist officers.
  • Commission: Graduates receive Short Service/Special Duties Commission in the Armed Forces.

Special Medical Intake

  • Duration: A compressed version of the Short Service Commission and Special Duties Course, spanning 12 weeks.
  • Focus: Enhancing military bearing, physical fitness, leadership qualities, and other essential attributes.
  • Training Components: Classroom sessions, field exercises, jungle operations training at Achiase, and barracks lessons covering various military subjects.

  • Military Skills Training: Equipping cadets with essential military competencies.
  • Leadership Development: Fostering confidence and leadership abilities.
  • Physical Fitness: Emphasizing the importance of physical readiness.
