Job Brief – Forest Officer
As a Forest Officer at IGGS, you will play a crucial role in the sustainable management of woodlands. Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising woodland owners on good forestry practice: Providing guidance on sustainable forestry practices to ensure the long-term health and vitality of woodlands.
- Advising on forestry grants and forest certification: Assisting woodland owners in navigating the intricacies of forestry grants and certification processes, promoting sustainable practices.
- Negotiating contract terms and appointing forest worker sub-contractors: Facilitating agreements and overseeing the selection of subcontractors for various forestry tasks.
- Monitoring budgets and preparing financial forecasts: Ensuring financial sustainability by overseeing budgets and forecasting expenditures accurately.
- Site surveying and anticipating future ecological developments: Conducting thorough site surveys and proactively identifying potential ecological changes for strategic planning.
- Preventing illegal felling of trees: Implementing measures to curb illegal logging activities and promoting responsible forestry.
- Identifying and addressing harmful pests and diseases: Implementing measures to detect and mitigate the impact of pests and diseases on woodland health.
- Supervising, coordinating, and training forestry workers: Overseeing the day-to-day activities of forestry workers, ensuring coordination and providing necessary training.

Qualification Required & Experience
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you should possess:
- A minimum of 2 years proven experience as a Forest Officer in a similar industry, showcasing your expertise in sustainable forestry practices.
- A minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a forestry or environmental-related course, providing you with the foundational knowledge required for the role.
- Knowledge in Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Proficiency in GIS to enhance decision-making processes related to forestry management.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills: The ability to lead and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Good research and analytical ability: The capacity to conduct in-depth research and analyze data to inform sustainable forestry practices.
