The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship program that provides financial assistance to academically talented Florida high school graduates who are pursuing postsecondary education at an eligible Florida public or private college or university.
Financial Benefits
The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship covers up to 100% of tuition fees for eligible students. The specific amount awarded depends on the type of scholarship a student receives. Here are the four types of scholarships offered by the program:
- Florida Academic Scholars (FAS): This scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees. To qualify, students must have a 3.50 weighted GPA, complete 100 service hours or 100 paid work hours, earn the required high school credits, and achieve the minimum ACT/SAT score.
- Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS): This scholarship covers 75% of tuition fees. To qualify, students must have a 3.00 weighted GPA, complete 75 service hours or 100 paid work hours, earn the required high school credits, and achieve the minimum ACT/SAT score.
- Gold Seal Cape Scholarship (GSC): This scholarship covers up to a specific amount and has no GPA requirement. Students must complete 30 service hours or 100 paid work hours, earn 5 CAPE post-secondary credit hours, and meet other requirements.
- Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship (GSV): This scholarship covers up to a specific amount. Students must have a 3.00 weighted GPA in non-elective courses, a 3.5 unweighted GPA in career education courses, complete 3 credits in a Career and Technical Education program, complete 30 service hours or 100 paid work hours, and meet other requirements.
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a Florida resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
- Complete the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) by August 31st after high school graduation.
- Earn a standard Florida high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Not have been found guilty of a felony charge.
- Be accepted by and enroll in a degree or certificate program at an eligible Florida public or private postsecondary institution.
- Be enrolled for at least six credit hours per term.
Specific Eligibility Requirements
- Graduate from a Florida public high school with a standard diploma.
- Achieve the required minimum score on the ACT or SAT by June 30th of your graduation year.
- Complete the required community service or paid work hours.
- Submit the FFAA by August 31st after high school graduation.
