ECG Warns of Increased Power Outages During Peak Hours

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a warning to the public regarding the likelihood of more frequent power outages during peak hours, specifically from 7pm to 11pm. The company attributes this to the strain on 630 distribution transformers across its operational areas, which are currently operating at full capacity due to heightened power demand.

According to ECG, this increased strain on the transformers may lead to blown fuses and broken conductors, resulting in power disruptions during the specified peak load period. To address these challenges, ECG reassures customers that transformer upgrading and new projects are underway to alleviate the strain and ensure a more reliable power supply.

In light of these developments, customers residing in affected communities are urged to report any localized outages or voltage fluctuations to the ECG Call Center via phone at 0302-611611 or through social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (@ECGghOfficial). ECG emphasizes the importance of prompt communication to facilitate timely rectification of issues.

Managing Director Samuel Dubik Mahama recently addressed concerns about frequent power disruptions, attributing them to maintenance issues rather than fuel shortages. He explained that operational challenges with machinery can arise unexpectedly, leading to inconveniences for consumers.

ECG acknowledges the patience and support of affected customers as the company continues its efforts to enhance Ghana’s power distribution system. Through ongoing maintenance and infrastructure projects, ECG aims to mitigate the impact of power outages and ensure a more reliable electricity supply for all.
