The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted three staff members from Somé Senior High School (SHS) in the Volta Region over allegations of stealing food supplies meant for the free SHS program.

Those interdicted include:

  • Richard Ametoxe (Bursar)
  • Yaw Dzikunu (Matron)
  • Alex Obuadi (Storekeeper)

The interdiction, effective immediately, comes as investigations into the alleged theft get underway. The investigative committee is expected to submit its report within two weeks.

Public Reactions

News of the interdiction has sparked mixed reactions among teachers and the general public. Some Ghanaians believe such acts undermine the free SHS policy and have called for the culprits to face punishment if found guilty.

Concerns have also been raised about the possibility of similar thefts occurring at other free SHSs across the country. One social media user urged the GES to investigate BAWKU Senior High School for similar offenses.

A Call for Discretion

However, a teacher expressed concern about the public nature of the announcement. They argued that constantly publicizing negative news about teachers on social media erodes public respect for the profession. This teacher suggested the GES utilize more discreet communication channels for such matters.
