The rise of a young Ghanaian author

Yussif Husna is a young lady who was born to parents Yussif Abdul Mumin and Khadijah Ibrahim, in the Northern region of Ghana on the 18th of January 1998. She is the third child of her parents and comes from a family of seven, which includes six girls and one boy. Her father is a teacher, who currently teaches at Bagabaga College of Education (BACE) in the Northern region of Ghana and her mother is a fashion designer.

As the only southpaw (Left-handed) of their small family growing up was difficult for her, because she saw herself to be different from her siblings. Since childhood, she had struggled to fit into the family as her sisters were intelligent, while she was only an average student.

Husna started schooling in Bimbilla. Where she attended Saint Kizito’s Primary School. Later, when her father got transferred to BACE, they moved to Tamale where she took her lower primary education from Future Leaders Primary School. She completed basic school at “Dahin Sheli” Junior High School in 2013 and attained secondary education at Tamale Girls senior High school from 2014 to 2016. In 2019, she went to the University for development studies (UDS), where she started a diploma course in Social Change Communication. However, she left to peruse a course in BA in English Language Education at the University of Education, Winneba where she studies currently.

At a tender age, Husna discovered she had a talent for writing. This led her to writing her first ever story titled, ‘The Innocent Rose.’ She was only in primary five when she penned down her first work. She saw writing as a hobby, something she did only in her spare time. As time went on, she wrote many other stories, which includes; Black and White Horses, Who is the boss, The devil among us, among others.

After completing senior high school, she stumbled on a writing platform called Wattpad where her work first went online. His Ghostess garnered over one thousand reads after going online. Other stories were published on Wattpad as well, which includes Sweet Fire, Corporate Bride and The Casanova’s Game, which have a total of over 400k reads online.

Husna came to realize that she writing was becoming more than just a hobby to her. She wanted to take up writing full time and become a writer.

In 2019, she entered a writing competition held by Sofanovel – an online writing platform for upcoming writers. She won third place with her story Sweet Fire among other international writers. After her success on Wattpad, she decided to share her works on other writing platforms such as Inkitt, Sofanovel and Fictum with penname Husnawrites. She has published more works online, including His Little Troublemaker and The Shy Girl Is a Dancer.
