Key Responsibilities of the Deputy Director, Environmental Health

The Deputy Director, Environmental Health will support the Clerk to Parliament and management by overseeing the following duties:

• Policy Development: Create and implement technical guidelines for environmental health management and sanitation services.
• Environmental Advisory: Provide expert advice on hygiene standards, occupational health, and environmental protection.
• Monitoring and Evaluation: Assess the performance and sustainability of waste management systems and sanitation facilities.
• Research and Data Management: Conduct research and data collection to support environmental health decisions.
• Public Education: Promote public awareness and educational campaigns on environmental health and hygiene.
• Program Implementation: Enforce hygiene standards, initiate vector-control programs, and develop strategies to combat environmentally related diseases.

Qualification and Experience Required

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Educational Background:
   • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field, with 9 years post-qualification experience in environmental health and sanitation.
   • A Master’s degree with at least 3 years of experience in a similar role such as Chief Environmental Health Analyst in public service.
     OR
   • A Bachelor’s and Master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years post-Master’s qualification experience and at least 3 years in a similar position.
2. Age Limit:
   • Applicants should not exceed 55 years of age at the time of appointment.
   • This age limit does not apply to those who have served in public service or state agencies before reaching the voluntary retirement age of 45 years.
