Key Responsibilities of the Deputy Director, Environmental Health
The Deputy Director, Environmental Health will support the Clerk to Parliament and management by overseeing the following duties:
- Policy Development: Create and implement technical guidelines for environmental health management and sanitation services.
- Environmental Advisory: Provide expert advice on hygiene standards, occupational health, and environmental protection.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Assess the performance and sustainability of waste management systems and sanitation facilities.
- Research and Data Management: Conduct research and data collection to support environmental health decisions.
- Public Education: Promote public awareness and educational campaigns on environmental health and hygiene.
- Program Implementation: Enforce hygiene standards, initiate vector-control programs, and develop strategies to combat environmentally related diseases.
- Technical Advice: Provide input for the formulation of environmental health policies and hygiene programs.
The selected candidate may also undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Clerk to Parliament.
Qualification and Experience Required
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Educational Background:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field, with 9 years post-qualification experience in environmental health and sanitation.
- A Master’s degree with at least 3 years of experience in a similar role such as Chief Environmental Health Analyst in public service.
OR - A Bachelor’s and Master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years post-Master’s qualification experience and at least 3 years in a similar position.
- Age Limit:
- Applicants should not exceed 55 years of age at the time of appointment.
- This age limit does not apply to those who have served in public service or state agencies before reaching the voluntary retirement age of 45 years.
