Jonathan Mensah, a Ghanaian defender has said winning the 2020 Major League Soccer is special. The skipper for Columbus Crew said this after winning the 2020 MLS Cup is ‘pretty special’ for his team.
Jonathan produced a served as a rock at the back of his team. The 30-year-old produced a solid shit to help Porter’s men keep a clean sheet in their 3-0 win against Seattle Sounders.
This is the second time Crew has won the MLS Cup after clinching their first tittle in 2008. Mensah has become the first skipper to lead the Crew to lift the MLS Cup.
In an interview with BBC Sport Africa. Mensah said it is an incredible achievement for the team. This is because they have been through so much as a club. The city and anyone connected to the Columbus can testify to the situation.
The Black Stars defender and skipper for the Crew said the community and everyone behind the Save the Crew movement made it happened. He added the players and management staff were just the vehicles that delivered it.
He said the team had certain qualities that enabled them to win the Cup. The skipper cited the team was determined, resilient, and had an undying desire. Captain for the team said the qualities of the team gave them the strength to accomplish their mission.
Life in the past three years has not been smooth. Looking at all the work done outside the field by fans and management, winning the trophy is just the nicest way of saying ‘thank you’. the skipper added.
Jonathan Mensah, commonly known as Paa Joe, is a Ghanaian professional footballer. He plays as a defender and captains MLS club Columbus Crew. Jonathan has played for Ashanti Gold, Free State Stars, Granada, Evian and Anzhi Makhachkala.
