Applications are invited from interested and suitably qualified candidates for AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited Recruitment 2021.

AngloGold Ashanti is a global gold mining company with mines and exploration projects in four different regions namely – Continental Africa, Americas, Australasia, and South Africa. The underground mining operation will be fully mechanized, designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:

JOB TITLE: TECHNICAL WRITER

ROLE PURPOSE 

The Technical Writer is accountable for the production of documentation allowing monitoring and control of construction and output of Processing Plant, surface and UG infrastructure new build/refurbishment and that it is to standard, through the application of operational engineering policies, standards, processes and procedures to maximise plant availability in a sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Work according to total quality management principles & ensure zero defect objectives & safety.
  • Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan.
  • Conduct formal meetings with team and report any weaknesses in the environmental procedures.
  • Enforce all environmental work procedures that have been issued by the Departmental Manager.
  • Investigate all environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative
  • Attend all scheduled and assigned environmental training meetings.
  • Gather information for the Engineering Technical Specialist for reporting performance
  • Gather approval for commencing document production from Engineering Technical Specialist
  • Obtain approval prior to distribution of produced documentation from Engineering Technical Specialist
  • Produce documentation to standard, through the application of operational engineering policies, standards, processes and procedures, in accordance with AGA and AGAG guidelines/instructions.
  • Produce standard documents as tenders, scopes and contracts for new build and refurbishment work packages.
  • Produce documentation allowing monitoring and control of construction and output of Processing Plant, surface and UG infrastructure new build/refurbishment produce standard documents as tenders, scopes and contracts for future regular maintenance work packages.
  • Actively participate in refurbishment/maintenance review programmers and Root Cause Failure Analysis process of equipment as per requirements to permit continuous improvement of documents produced.
  • Identify, communicate, and implement potential cost reduction initiatives.
  • Propose cost savings projects.
  • Execute work in a timely manner
  • Incorporate monitored equipment performance on asset health system ton permit the inclusion of proactive measures in documentation to address symptoms of potential failure.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Maintenance Engineering, or equivalent.
  • A masters’ Degree in Management will be an advantage.
  • Financial, commercial and project management through work experience and courses.

Experience 

  • An experienced engineer with 5+ years’ experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in mining or metallurgical plant
  • Experience in management of Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC).
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Knowledge of SAP PM module

Technical Competencies

  • Strong Technical Writing experience in mining and/or extractive metallurgy environment
  • Sound project management skills
  • Should have analytical skills to be able to evaluate information and solve complex problems.
  • Detail-oriented to understand complex systems, and recognize that a minor error can cause major problems.
  • Commercially astute and able to work effectively with third parties.
  • Legally astute with respect to project delivery and maintenance systems
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Project and Excel
  • Must be able to communicate about technical issues both orally and in writing

JOB TITLE: SUPERINTENDENT, HEALTH, AND HYGIENE

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Establish sustainable, integrated occupational health & hygiene management plans for the mine
  • Ensure compliance with Ghana, AGA and relevant international regulatory requirements
  • Develop and review processes and procedures for health
  • Enforce all environmental work procedures that have been issued by the Departmental Manager.
  • Investigate all environmental incidents in their assigned work areas. Immediately after an incident, complete an incident report form and submit to the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative. A preliminary investigation report and any recommendations for preventing a recurrence should be included on the incident report form.
  • Attend all scheduled and assigned environmental training meetings.
  • Act on all employee environmental complaints and suggestions.
  • Ensure implementation of critical control management for health risk
  • Ensure contractor compliance with AGA and legislative requirements
  • Build capacity and provide best practice guidance and oversight in health & hygiene programs.
  • Ensure training awareness programmes for health risk and exposures to workforce and where applicable communities.
  • Facilitate occupational risk assessments to meet operational demands.
  • Prioritise health & hygiene related risks and ensure effective controls to manage these risks.
  • Develop risk based medical surveillance programmes
  • Develop fitness for duty assessment processes / programme
  • Design and develop health and wellbeing programmes to optimise fitness for duty and productivity – to include awareness campaigns and relevant interventions to optimise health and wellbeing.
  • Facilitate access to good quality services for illnesses and injuries among workforce and dependents.
  • Establish, coordinate, and review the medical emergency plan for the mine and ensure availability and processes to access good quality services spanning from first aid to tertiary level care where necessary.
  • Monitor key health & hygiene metrics across the operation, and ensure effective quality assurance processes in place
  • Prepare health reports to various stakeholders as in line with prescribed periodic requirements from mine, AGA and regulators.
  • Assess and review community health impacts and facilitate implementation of community health plans and monitoring thereof.
  • Collaborate with relevant implementation stakeholders internally and externally to mitigate through evidence-based control interventions.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to ensure implementation of critical controls to mitigate workplace exposures.
  • Liaise with relevant service providers to mitigate overall wellbeing and community health risk.
  • Develop areas of support, service level agreements as well as performance monitoring / reporting processes for the designated hospitals, malaria programmes and sustainability.
  • Advise HR Department and mine management on workforce wellbeing interventions to be implemented.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in any of the following; Occupational and Environmental Health, or Safety, Health and Environmental Science/Engineering, Environmental Science/Engineering, Chemical/Mineral Process Engineering or Sciences, Health Science, Medical Sciences, and in each case with Basic qualification, experience and understanding in Industrial (Occupational) Hygiene.
  • Membership with ACGIH or BOHS will be an advantage
  • Experience with Occupational Health and Safety Auditing (OHSAS 18001:2007) or (ISO 45001) Standards.
  • Experience and knowledge in applicable Ghanaian Mining Regulations.

JOB TITLE: SAFETY OFFICER, SYSTEMS

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Liaise with various sectional Heads to plan for and facilitate incident investigations, risk assessments and material/fatal risk management actions.
  • Providing support with regard to the existing safety systems on site that governs work practices and risk control processes.
  • Coordinate and monitor OHS training and education programs and liaise with other stakeholders for their input.
  • Assist in managing Health and Safety related pages and relevant information on the OHS department intranet site and contribute to other departmental communications.
  • Ensure implementation of recommendations from internal and external audits.
  • Demonstrate Safety Leadership and improve the Culture across the OHS systems section regarding Safety, Health, and Sustainable Development.
  • Rigorously drive implementation of projects and strategies and nurture and sustain a culture of Accountability and Continuous Improvement within the OHS Systems section.
  • Enforce all environmental work procedures that have been issued by the Departmental Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or relevant technical (Engineering, Physical Sciences) qualification or equivalent discipline.

Experience 

  • Has a minimum of 3-5 experience in a similar role.
  • Superuser of Microsoft suit of application, especially MS Excel
  • Previous experience with a range of safety and training systems and packages will be an advantage
  • Knowledge in Database System Management.

Safety Management systems

  • Understands systems and procedures. Can assist with the development of task specific procedures.
  • Risk Management
  • Can apply risk management at a personal level and lead teams in JHA level assessments. Understands HRM 1 and 2. Able to review JHA type of work before being applied in the field.

Audit and Inspection

JOB TITLE: COMMUNITY RELATIONS OFFICER, SYSTEMS AND SUPPORT

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Receive and engage all stakeholders who come to the department.
  • Provide required information and direction to stakeholders to the department.
  • Maintain updated Visitors and Guests Book.
  • Maintain updated diary for stakeholder engagement activities of the Senior Manager Sustainability.
  • Ensure new documents developed in the department comply with the Document Control SOP.
  • Maintain and update location of all controlled documents.
  • Ensure all controlled documents are updated.
  • Maintain effective document trail of payments to stakeholders in line with the approved Payment to Government and Stakeholder’s Policy.
  • Set up Departmental Meetings.
  • Ensure and maintain recording of Departmental Meetings.
  • Enter Stores Reservations and Purchase Requisitions into the SAP system and follow up for approval.
  • Coordinate travels in the department and maintain document trail of travel requests.
  • Participate in activities of Units in the department as and when needed.
  • Provide leave cover in the various units of the Department.
  • Develop Weekly CEO Report.
  • Compile Monthly Departmental Reports.
  • Compile Quarterly Social, Ethics and Sustainability (SES) Board Report.
  • Implement Departmental (HSE) objectives in line with mine wide HSE objectives.
  • Ensure a good safety and sanitary conditions are maintained at the office premise.
  • Assist in carrying out routine risk assessments and health and safety inspections in the office premise.
  • Participate in the planning and carrying out Safety and Environmental audits in the department.

QUALIFICATION

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification in the field of Social Science.

Experience 

  • At least 2 years experience in a similar line of work.

Technical Competencies

  • Good knowledge of the sustainability discipline
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationship with stakeholders
  • Ability to perform administrative duties
  • Ability to write report
  • Ability to plan and carry out routine risk assessments and health and safety inspections
  • A good understanding of ISO requirement of the Sustainability discipline
