2024 BECE Provisional Results Expected by Mid-October: WAEC Official
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is set to release the provisional results for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) by mid-October 2024, according to John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC.
In a recent interview with JoyNews, Mr. Kapi confirmed that the marking of BECE scripts is still ongoing. “Tentatively, we are looking at the first weekend of October, but we give ourselves a grace period of 7 days. By the middle of October, the 2024 BECE results should be out,” he said.
Government Support for BECE 2024
To facilitate the timely release of results, the central government has released funds to WAEC to cover the payments of examiners, supervisors, and invigilators who played key roles in overseeing the 2024 BECE.
BECE 2024 Statistics
This year, a total of 569,095 candidates from 19,506 public and private Junior High Schools across Ghana sat for the BECE. The breakdown of candidates includes 282,648 males and 286,447 females. The examination took place between Monday, July 8, and Monday, July 15, 2024.
Additionally, 1,366 private candidates (735 males and 631 females) participated in the BECE for Private Candidates, which was held at 15 centres primarily located in regional capitals.
Smooth Conduct of the Examination
To ensure the smooth administration of the BECE, WAEC deployed:
- 2,123 supervisors
- 1,889 assistant supervisors
- 19,973 invigilators
These personnel were stationed at 2,123 centres nationwide to oversee the examination for school candidates.
Curriculum Changes
For school candidates, the BECE was based on the newly introduced Common Core Curriculum. In contrast, private candidates were examined based on the old syllabus.
To support candidates, WAEC provided guidelines, a scheme and structure of the examination, and sample questions to all Junior High Schools ahead of the examination.
Stay tuned for updates as the official results are expected by mid-October 2024.
