2024 NSMQ Regional Balloting Kicks Off!

The race to become Ghana’s next National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) champion is officially underway!

Regional Balloting Dates Announced

The NSMQ organizers, Primetime, have announced the schedule for the 2024 regional balloting exercise. Schools across the country will participate from May 20th to May 29th, 2024. Here’s a breakdown of the regional balloting dates:

  • May 20th: Greater Accra, Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions
  • May 22nd: Western, Western North, and Upper West Regions
  • May 24th: Central and Upper East Regions
  • May 26th: Eastern, Northern, North East, and Savannah Regions
  • May 29th: Volta, Oti, and Ashanti Regions

This regional competition is expected to be fierce, with schools vying for a chance to challenge the reigning champions, PRESEC-Legon. The eight-time champions will be looking to make history by winning a record-breaking third consecutive title.

A Look Back at NSMQ’s Impact

The NSMQ is a national program designed to encourage Ghanaian second-cycle schools to prioritize science and mathematics education. The program’s success is evident in the achievements of past contestants. Dr. Jochebed Adwoa Sutherland, a 2017 NSMQ participant, recently emerged as the overall best student in both Ghana and West Africa for the 2017 WASSCE. Additionally, Haqq Abubakar Soolah, a member of the 2023 St. John’s School NSMQ team, received a prestigious $75,000 scholarship to study at the Accra College of Medicine.

Can PRESEC-Legon Achieve an Unprecedented Three-peat?

All eyes will be on PRESEC-Legon as they attempt to secure a historic third consecutive NSMQ victory. However, formidable contenders like Achimota and Prempeh College are sure to put up a strong fight to dethrone the reigning champions. With the regional balloting complete, the stage is set for another exciting year of NSMQ!
