2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Launched with Record 157 Schools Participating
Primetime Limited officially launched the 2024 National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) on October 1, 2024, at the GNAT Hall in Accra. This year’s competition marks a historic milestone with 157 Senior High Schools, including eight private schools, seeded to participate in the national championship—the largest number since the competition began in 1993.
During the launch, Nana Akua Mensa-Bonsu, Managing Director of Primetime Limited, highlighted the significance of this year’s event. She noted that this is the first time that private second-cycle schools are participating, bringing the total number of competitors to an all-time high.
“The balloting exercise for the Prelims will help each school know who they are up against. Another new development this year is that for the first time in NSMQ history, we have 157 schools, including eight private schools, participating in the National Championship,” she said.
Ms. Mensa-Bonsu also expressed optimism that private schools would compete strongly with their government school counterparts, acknowledging the challenge of acclimatizing to the quiz’s unique demands.

The launch was attended by key figures in Ghana’s educational sector, including representatives from the Ministry of Education, quiz mistresses, consultants, and sponsors.
